Engineers Without Borders Field School

Summer 2014 EWB Field School

CATIS-Mexico was proud to co-coordinate a 17-day summer course on “Analyzing Earth Friendly Technologies: Studying Context, Culture and Design” for 26 young people representing 12 different countries. The course was sponsored by Engineers Without Borders-UK (EWB-UK) and held in partnership with IRRI-Mexico.  The diverse group of students and professionals covered a lot of physical territory traveling from Mexico City to Puebla to San Miguel de Allende and back again to the capital…as well as a lot of territory-related sustainable technologies.

The course program included introductory courses in rainwater harvesting, solar energy, compressed earth block building, and biodigestors. In addition, participants visited projects related to sustainable agriculture, water resource management, and ecological stoves, while also learning about microcredit and social entrepreneurship. The participants took full advantage of their time here and explored cultural spaces, and historical and tourist attractions.
