Water as a human right

In September of 2013, The Permanent Peoples' Tribunal (PPT) stated that the Independence Watershed Region, where CATIS-Mexico and partners work, should be declared a state of emergency due to the contamination and overexploitation of both surface and ground water.    The case was brought in front of the PPT by Coalition in Defense of the Independence Aquifer (CODECIN); CATIS-Mexico is a founding and active member of CODECIN.  Now a year after the trial took took place, we take a look back and remember the event.  CATIS-Mexico will be updating the website throughout the month of September, the one year anniversary of the PPT, with case documents and much more info.  In the meantime, learn more about the trial and the here.
